Ota Sevcik – Frankovka Claret 2018
Producer: Ota Ševčík Winery
Country: Czech Republic
Uncertified | Organic Practice
Ota Sevcik – Frankovka Claret 2018 is a Blanc de Noir style, that is white wine made from red grapes. The word Claret is the Czech term for this type of wine and has no relation to the French meaning. It is similar in style to an orange wine which is why we have also listed it as such.
It is made from 100% Frankovka. It is gently pressed to get just light colour and the more fresher notes of the grapes. Lots of red fruit, strawberries, freshly picked black cherries, with a lovely creamy mouthfeel and a delicious long finish yet being so refreshing for the warmer days.
Ota Sevcik – Frankovka Claret contains minimal added sulphites. Read more.
Ota Sevcik – Frankovka Claret is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
More about the producer:
OTA Ševčík is based in Bořetice in South Moravia in the Hanácké Slovácko region. His ancestors owned vineyards and made wines, so did his father. Ota carries over the knowledge and tradition of his ancestors and brings in winemaking methods to create wines characteristic for Hanácké Slovácko. He works with 11,000 bushes on a total area of 2 hectares under organic cultivation. The soil here is very rich in magnesium content, which Ota feels gives much more concentration and added complexity to the finished wine.
He humbly accepts the gifts of nature, respects the terroir and works with his hands and his heart, as romantic as this sounds this is truly his strength. He looks for precision, purity and harmony in his wines and his goal is to achieve high quality wines with a personality.
His relationship with vineyards and winemaking dates back to his childhood, when he helped his parents. And his first wine was made in 1992, cuvee Večerka, Veltlinské červené (Roter Veltliner).
Ota Ševcik has also been the founding member of Authentiste group, which includes winegrowers who follow a conscientious way of farming and keeping away from manipulating wines in the cellar with unnecessary additives, he is a strong believer of being really hands on in the vineyards and this is really clear when you meet him.
These wines have superb ability to age if you were looking for something to cellar.
